Federal attorneys successfully prosecuted a man in Burlington, Vermont, for lying about his income to receive rental subsidies. He has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $18,000 in restitution.
Court records said that the man received rental assistance payments from 2007 to 2011 through the Vermont State Housing Authority program funded by HUD because he said he had no income. But the U.S. attorney's office said from November 2009 through 2011, the individual was employed and receiving a salary.
